My first year in college at the University of Kentucky I was taking an introduction course in Psychology. While studying the textbook for that class one day I read a sentence that caught my attention and stuck with me ever since then.
“Be skeptical but not cynical, open-minded but not gullible. “
Ever since I read that one sentence, I knew that is how I’m going to look at everything in the world. It rang as the most well balanced way of thought so that you reduce the likelihood of being mislead and avoid a bias that could cause you to miss something important. Until I come across an even better way of putting it, this sentence is what I’m going to live by until the day I die. I hope that maybe it will touch a few other people as well.
