A few days ago I watched a video posted on Youtube by AtheistMediaBlog and I was shocked by the outright prejudices of Stuart Varney on Fox News. Typically people in the media let viewers know that they think ill of those who are atheists or even simply of another religion, but for someone to be so blunt is appalling. At least those who say it in a round about way are at least trying to be polite.
So lets get to what Stuart Varney said on Fox News. Stuart believes two things. One, that there are very few Christians in Europe. And two, that because of this it’s directly causing financial problems for the countries. Immediately you should realize how prejudice this is. The vast different kinds across Europe can’t be tossed around into a category so easily. Those countries that make up Europe vary all over the spectrum when it comes to religious beliefs and political beliefs. Also, think of where the center of the Catholic Church is… it’s in Italy…in Europe.
Now lets talk pure, old fashion statistics. From what I gathered from Wikipedia, 77.27% of all Europeans are Christian. That doesn’t sound like Christianity is a minority religion by any means, quite the opposite. Now look at China, only 3% are Christian. Wouldn’t you think China would be barely scraping by financially if what Stuart Varney is saying is true? But China is doing great financially, as a matter of fact it’s becoming a serious contender in the world. Also as of May of 2009, the US has owed China $772 billion dollars because they are whom we borrowed money from which is our national debt.
What Stuart Varney believes simply doesn’t hold up to the reality of the world. A country or culture will not collapse financially for not being Christian. The fact simply don’t show this at all. Stuart Varney simply despises those who aren’t like him, Christian. People like this will always exist, but we all need to call out the falsities when we can.
I do feel that it’s worth noting that China is doing great financially as a nation, not so much for most of the individuals.
Also, I don’t feel very many Europeans or Americans have any particular desire to move there.
Just sayin
